Shangri-La thangka exhibition sets world record
The exhibition features 1,699 scrolls. Guinness World Record certification officer Gulnaz Ukassova conferred the certificate at Sunday's opening, which also marked the inauguration of the 12-story temple and an exhibition center.
The temple also houses a 21-meter high statue of the Buddha, as well as 2,000 Tibetan cultural relics.
Thangkas are considered a kind of encyclopedia of Tibetan culture. The paintings on display showcase Tibetan lifestyles and the development of Buddhist art.
