The Tibetans in Yunnan are descendants of the ancient nomadic Qiang people from northwestern China. They are mainly distributed in Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in northwest Yunnan. They believe in Tibetan Buddhism and have the highland barley as their staple food. Their yak butter tea is an unforgettable drink, and the joyful Xuanzi musical dance and the solemn Guozhuang dance witness the artistic nature them.

The Meili Snow Mountain is absolutely holy in the hearts of the Tibetans. On the snow-covered mountain trails of Diqing Plateau, people are always seen on the pilgrimage journey. The average pilgrim is shaking a scripture wheel in hand and proceeds by praying from afar to the Snow Mountain.
