In the Longchuan River valley, Lufeng County, central Yunnan’s Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, there is an old town——Heijing which is regarded as a “Thousand-year-old Town of Salt”.

According to historical research, there were human beings living in Heijing as early as 3,200 years ago. In the ancient times, Heijing had been an important salt-producing town. Officials were appointed to exclusively manage the salt producing and selling in the town during the Yuan(1271-1368), Ming(1368-1644) and Qing(1644-1912) Dynasties. Since salt was an important and rare necessity in the old times, Heijing became a prosperous salt-trading hub. Today, Heijing, leaving behind the hustles and bustles, has become a popular destination where tourists can enjoy its quietness and experience its rich culture.

Wandering on the flagstones of the old town, you will be impressed by the traditional Chinese houses and unique custom. When you are tired, you can eat at a local restaurant. The mouth-watering delicacies would relieve your fatigue and lure your taste buds even after you leave the old town.

200 kilometers from Kunming, capital city of Yunnan province, Heijing now is accessible by train and by car. It is a destination worth your visit and stay.
