As one of the 18 oddities in Yunnan, cooked insects is one unique trait of the Yunnan delicacy.

Ethnic minorities such as Hani, Dai, Jingpo and Deang in the province have been holding the insect-eating habit for a long time.

Ant eggs, bamboo worms, grasshoppers, larvas, chrysalis and even golden spiders all can be prepared as delicacies. Sound unacceptable and maybe terrifying, these dishes surprisingly turn out to be nutritious and goluptious. And they normally go with liquor and wine though one needs courage to have a try when traveling in Yunnan.

It is said that these insects are full of protein, but they are likely to upset newcomers who are treated with any of these ‘weird’ dishes.
