Lancang-Mekong Day kicks off in Yunnan
The “Lancang- Mekong Day” kicked off in Yunnan University, Kunming, capital city of southwest China’s Yunnan province on March 22. As part of the “Lancang-Mekong Week”, the event features an opening ceremony, a running race, a tree planting activity. Hundreds of youths and students from China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam took part in the running.
On that day, the Lancang Mekong Cooperation Seminar was also held. Centering on the issues of promoting Lancang-Mekong Cooperation and the like, domestic and overseas scholars conducted heated discussions. During the seminar, two books—“New Opportunity for Lancang-Mekong Countries Cooperation and New Chapter for China-ASEAN Relations” and “Lancang-Mekong Cooperation and Yunnan’s Role”—were released.
The Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) mechanism was established in November 2015. In less than three years, it has grown rapidly and demonstrated strong vitality. As a participating Chinese province in the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, Yunnan has developed a long-standing friendship with Mekong countries. In recent years, fruitful results have been achieved in the industrial capacity, agriculture and tourism cooperation between Yunnan and these countries.
