The Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Luang Prabang held a Spring Festival/Chinese New Year reception on January 25.

“At present, China is the largest investor in Laos and the second largest trading partner. From January to November 2017, the bilateral trade volume between China and Laos reached 2.6 billion U.S. dollars, up 27% over the same period last year.” Chinese consul-general to Luang Prabang Li Baoguang said at the reception.

Noting the China-Laos friendly cooperation, Li said the hydropower projects undertaken by Chinese companies on the Nam Ou River are helping Laos become "battery of Southeast Asia". Li added China helped built up quite a few hospitals, highways and schools in Laos, with the wellbeing of local people improved.

Senior officials from the Lao provinces of Luang Prabang, Phongsali, Houaphan, Louang Namtha attended the function, together with Viet Nam diplomats, and Chinese business representatives and teachers in Luang Prabang.
