A survey of the 15 civilian airports across Yunnan

Yunnan Province, straddling in the southwest frontier of China,  is rich in tourism resources, bio-diversity and ethnic culture. At present, Yunnan has 15 civilian airports, providing easy and affordable air services to tourists.

1. Kunming Changshui International Airport

Located in the Changshui village of Guandu District, the airport in central Yunnan is 24.5 kilometers northeast of downtown Kunming, and it is one of the top 100 airports in the world. In 2017, the airport served 44.73 million passengers, listed among the global top 50 airports in passenger throughput. 

2. Lijiang Sanyi International Airport

The airport is 28 kilometers to the south of Lijiang City in northwest Yunnan. With a 2242.8-meter elevation, the airport served over 7 million passengers in 2017.

3. Dali Airport

The airport is 13 kilometers away from Dali City, west Yunnan’s Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture. Takeoffs and landings of the Boeing 737 and Airbus 320 flights are seen at the air facility.

4. Xishuangbanna Gasa International Airport

Also known as Jinghong International Airport, the facility was founded in 1990. The airport is a national first-class airport, and it makes Yunnan’s second international airport.

5. Dehong Mangshi Airport

Located in Mangshi City, Dehong Prefecture, the airport is 6.5 kilometers from the city and 877 meters above the sea level. In 2017, the passenger throughput exceeded 1.64 million. The airport is one of the five Yunnan airports that serve over one million passengers annually.

6. Tengchong Tuofeng Airport

The airport is situated near Tuofeng Village, 10 kilometers south of the Tengchong county seat. It is a civilian airport near the China-Myanmar border. 

7. Diqing Shangri-La Airport

Diqing Shangri-La Airport is an airport serving Shangri-La City, northwest Yunnan’s Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. Five kilometers away from Shangri-La City, the airport operates the Boeing 757 and other smaller flights.

8. Zhaotong Airport

The airport lies four kilometers east of Zhaotong City, and it runs the Boeing 737-800 and other smaller airplanes.

9. Wenshan Puzhehei Airport

Located south of the Yanshan county seat, Wenshan Puzhehei Airport is an airport serving Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in southeast Yunnan. Puzhehei is a unique karst scenic area some 80 kilometers from the airport.

10. Baoshan Yunrui Airport 

Built in 1929, the airport is one of the earliest civilian airports in China. It is also a model airport in southwest China.

11. Lincang Airport

Standing in the west of Boshang Town, the airport is 16.5 km from Lincang City. It operates the Boeing 737-700 and smaller airplanes.

12. Pu'er Simao Airport

The airport is 1.5 kilometers from the center of the Pu'er city, and it could handle Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 under all-weather conditions.

13. Cangyuan Washan Airport

It is an airport serving Cangyuan Wa Autonomous County in southwest Yunnan’s Lincang City. The airport is located in Nuoliang Township, 36 kilometers from the Cangyuan county seat.

14. Ninglang Lugu Airport

This high altitude airport is located in Shifoshan of Hongqiao Township, Ninglang County, at an elevation of 3,292.9 meters.

15. Lancang Jingmai Airport 

It is an airport serving Lancang Lahu Autonomous County in Pu'er, Yunnan province. The airport is located in Donghui Township, 30 kilometres from the county seat of Lancang. The airport opened on May 26, 2017.
