Yi women wow audience with art on fingertips
The Costume Competition Festival of Yi people recently opened in Zhizuo Village, Yongren County, Yunnan Province. As part of the event, about 500 women exhibited their art on fingertips to the audience on March 3.
With the Zhizuo Costume Competition Festival, Yi embroidery has been passed down for over one thousand years. Embroidery is an important element of Yi people's life in Yongren County, central Yunnan’s Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture. Young or old, Yi women are obsessed with this traditional art. Local girls even learn embroidery from childhood.
The Yi embroidery art has been showcased on a wider stage and has received recognition from home and abroad. Locals cooperate with associations and companies to present products to customers, which helps increase the income of villagers.
