Unique Lahu festival to take place in Xinping, central Yunnan
Dancing "Tiaoyaba", playing musical instruments, throwing rice grains... Several days later on March 18, the Lahu people in central Yunnan’s Xinping County will celebrate their unique cultural festival.
When the festival comes, the Lahu people, dressed in their festive costumes, will dance and sing folk songs, while playing local musical instrument like leather drum, Lusheng and Sanxian.
Besides, they will hold sacrifice ceremony to pray for a bumper harvest and more cattle. Among all the activities, rice grains throwing and Tiaoyaba dance are the most expecting. The Lahu people throw rice grains to each other.
The more grains one receives, the luckier you will be. Tiaoyaba is a unique Lahu folk dance. Following the cheerful drum beats, they'll dance in particular moves with bamboo clappers in hand.
