CGK opens, showcasing the “notes of the region”

Contempororay Gallery Kunming (CGK) was open to the public on March 3, and its inaugural exhibition was themed as “the notes on region”.

The exhibition features recent works by ten Yunnan artists born in the 1980s. These artists express notions of “region” through their works covering a wide range of mediums from painting to sculpture and video.

Unlike usual form of exhibition, it is an exploration of elements of “region” that crosses between different art forms and disciplines, to produce a series of “notes” on “region.” The works in this exhibition are all presented in Yunnan for the first time. All of the artists are connected to Yunnan in some way, having been born here, having studied here or actively creating here.

Although Yunnan is far from developed cities in China, it is a fertile land for arts. The diverse ethical culture, the unique geographic location and its open-minded people attract numerous artists from worldwide. At the same time, this land also cultivates many native artists who have deep understanding of the region.
