Lao academician visits the KUST
Former president of the National University of Laos (NUOL) Soukkongseng Xayaleuth, who is also member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, paid a visit to Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST), Yunnan Province on March 5. The Lao academician was received by the KUST vice president Yang Bin.
Yang Bin warmly greeted Soukkongseng and thanked him for his efforts in pushing ahead with the cooperation between the two universities during his tenure as the NUOL president.
“At present, more than 200 Lao students studies at the Kunming university, with the number ranking first among Chinese universities,” said Yang Bin. The Confucius Institute, jointly organized by the KUST and Souphanouvong University, has been approved by the Bejing-based Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban), and the First People’s Hospital of Yunnan Province helps train medical workers for Laos. The hospital is affiliated to the KUST.
Showing thanks to the hospitality, Soukkongseng said that Chinese President Xi Jinping chose the Lao PDR as the destination for his first official visit after the 19th CPC National Congress, which shows China attaches importance to the China-Laos friendship.
The China-Laos railway under construction will greatly deepen the economic ties between Yunnan and Laos, said Soukkongseng. He hoped the KUST could play a greater role in creating a community of shared future for China and Laos.
