Every year on the third day of the third month on Chinese lunar calendar (which falls on April 18 this year), people in Kunming, Southwest China's Yunnan province, hold a special spring gathering at the city's Xishan Mountain. The festive event is called Sanyuesan in Chinese, which literally means the lunar date of the day.

Today marks this year's Sanyuesan festival, which will be celebrated with music, dance, traditional operas and demonstrations of local intangible cultural heritages, such as sugar painting, paper-cutting, embroideries and carving. Local people will dress up in ethnic costumes to celebrate yet another day of cultural feast.
