As the first of its kind in Yunnan, the Kunming Confucian Temple has witnessed the integration of traditional Chinese culture and local ethnic culture. It is a place for worshiping Confucius and was also used as educational facilities in the past.

In bygone days, the Kunming temple was always crowded with people. Elder residents living nearby usually gathered here for a casual chat, playing chess or simply enjoying their leisure times. On the right side of the gate, there is a cabin where Dian opera was once performed, attracting numerous visitors.

During the period of the Republic of China, the Kunming temple served as an educational facility where there was a night school of the National Southwestern Associated University. The library and speech hall of the then Kunming Department of Education were also there.

The temple was badly damaged in the 1960s and is now restored. The locals said that although the current Kunming Confucian Temple is not as big as it was, but it is still important to them because the temple is not only the cultural pulse of Kunming, but also a part of their memory.
