Rice-culture festival kicks off in Guangnan County
The 2018 World Rice-Culture Tourism Festival opened in southeast Yunnan’s Guangnan County on September 19, drawing in visitors from home and abroad.
The cultural event is highlighted by an ancient Gouding royal banquet that features Guangnan local dishes, many of which are made out of rice.
A two-day rice forum was also held in Guangnan. Agricultural specialists from China, Myanmar, Bangladesh and others shared ideas on the origins, experiences and technologies in rice breeding and cultivation.
As the cradle of the Gouding culture, Guangnan has a history of more than 2,000 years. This year's festival will last till October 6.
The Gouding (句町) Kingdom lasted around 400 years in the Qin and Han dynasties, and it was centered on Guangnan County in modern Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture.
