“Yunnan will strive to develop the world's first-class ‘clean energy’ and ‘green food’ industries, and aims to be a world-class ‘destination for healthy life’ (an allusion to medical tourism). These are the three aces for Yunnan to play.”

At the opening of the First Session of the 13th Yunnan Provincial People's Congress on January 25, the government work report outlined three aces/industries Yunnan will focus on in the coming years. Each of the industries will reach a production value of hundreds of billions yuan.

In the ensuing week, the phrase “three aces” was heatedly debated by deputies of the First Session of the 13th Yunnan Provincial People's Congress, as well as by members of the First Session of the 12th Yunnan Provincial Committee of the CPPCC.

Ding Xingzhong, director of Yunnan Provincial Bureau of Energy, said clean energy will make up 42 percent of the province’s energy total by 2020, with an installed capacity of 93 million kilowatts.

“Yunnan’s annual production capacity of new energy vehicles will reach 500,000, with 350 charge stations and 163,000 posts to be built across the province,” added Yang Fusheng, director of Yunnan Provincial Industry and Information Technology Commission.

Wang Minzheng, director of Yunnan Provincial Department of Agriculture, specified the green food varieties involve tea, flowers, vegetables, TCM herbs, walnuts, fruit, coffee, edible fungus, and meat.

Yu Fan, director of Yunnan Provincial Tourism Development Commission, noted the province will continue to clean up tourism market with “zero tolerance”. And based on the App of “Tour in Yunnan on the phone”, Yunnan will develop smart tourism, offering easy and sound service to tourists.

“In the coming five to ten years, Yunnan plans to build up an international health and medicine town, which will serve as a world-class destination for healthy life and medical tourism.” Li Malin, director of Yunnan Health and Family Planning Commission, said.
