Readers’ Day of four periodicals marked in Kunming
Yunnan Daily Press Group and The Mekong Periodical Office have held the “Readers’ Day” function themed “One River, One Family” in Kunming, Yunnan Province on April 28.
Attendees of the event involve in-Kunming consuls general, consuls, business delegates, translators, university teachers and international college students from China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia.
U Soe Paing, Consul-General of Myarmar in Kunming, said: "The Mingalar magazine uses the Myanmar language to report China's politics, economy, and the cooperation between the two countries.”
Lauding the magazine’s friendly contacts with his consulate, Soe Paing also hoped this monthly news magazine could let more Yunnan readers know about Myanmar’s tourism resources and economic performance.
All the 100 plus participants have something to do with the “four periodicals” under the Kunming-based periodical office, namely, Mingalar, Mekong, Champa and Khmer. Published in local languages, the four news magazines are loved by the readers.
Khamphone Vongsanty, Consul-General of Laos in Kunming, said the “four periodicals” provide rich information for readers in the Mekong region, noting the Laotian Champa magazine’s progress in language.
Founded in 2005, Champa has played a key role in the exchanges and mutual understanding between the two countries, helping the buildup of a China-Laos community with a shared future. The consul-general added.
International college students from China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia either shared their stories with the publications or performed songs and dancing. Other attendees also remarked on the periodicals.
The four periodicals are sponsored by the State Council Information Office of China and founded by the Information Office of the People's Government of Yunnan Province. Since 2016, they have been run by Yunnan Daily Press Group.
