Two freight vessels loaded with sands left the Simao Port on the Lancang river for Jinghong Port in south Yunnan’s Xishuangbanna on the June 26, marking the resumption of cargo service after a 13-year suspension on the shipping channel.

Operated by the Yuhao Waterway Freight Department of Simao District, southwest Yunnan’s Pu’er City, the “Shengyuan 05” and “Shengyuan 08” cargo ships now can run smoothly on the Lancang-Mekong section between Simao Port in China and Luang Prabang in Laos.

The Simao-Jinghong shipping channel was disrupted in the past years due the construction of the Jinghong Hydropower Station.

Simao Port is a national-level river port in Yunnan Province, and it is also China’s first port on the Lancang-Mekong international shipping network. Via the port, Yunnan produces could have access to all Mekong countries.
