Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys: Mountain elves
As a rare animal species unique to China, Yunnan snub-nosed monkey is a protected animal species at the national level.
Located in northwest Yunnan province’s Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, the Baima Snow Mountain National Nature Reserve is the largest nature reserve and a paradise for Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys in the country.
Being vigilant, Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys would run away as soon as they saw people in the past. But now these “mountain elves” with beautiful red lips and human-like faces dare to come to contact with human beings. This is achieved through years of efforts in protecting the habitat of Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys.
In the Baima Snow Mountain Nature Reserve, forest vegetation and ecological environment have been greatly improved and poaching is basically eliminated. And some local villagers have formed a group of monkey rangers to feed and take care of these rare animals.
