Three nurses sheltering new-born babies with their own bodies after quake

Two separate magnitude-5 earthquakes jolted Tonghai County in SW China’s Yunnan Province on August 13 and 14. While disaster-relief supplies were sent, a photo taken shortly after the second quake showing nurses at a local hospital sheltering new-born babies with their own bodies, has become an internet hit all over the country.

According to reports by the local media, three nurses evacuated from the building with babies tightly wrapped in their arms only a few minutes after the earthquake, and the moment was captured by Li Jiao, a stuff member of the hospital, who was there at the time.

The photo has become an internet hit once published and received 26.88 million clicks and 90 thousand likes as of August 16. The selfless and fearless action of the nurses was praised by millions of people as “a great moment of humanity”.

Li Jiao said that all of them were afraid at the time, but everyone, as doctors and nurses, knew that it’s their responsibility to keep the babies safe no matter what happens.
