With a history of 3,000 years, the Wolang Feast was held by Wa Kings to entertain tribe chiefs, heroes and honored guests in the past. Today, for tourists who travel to Ximeng Wa Autonomous County in southwest Yunnan, the feast is a must-try.

In ancient times, the kings of Wa people used to host feasts to commend heroes and welcome honored guests, and to mark great events including tribe migration and changes of throne. The feast is called Wolang Feast or Banquet of Wa Kings. Today, in Ximeng Wa Autonomous County in southwest Yunnan, the Wolang feast has become popular among tourists.

During the feast, after all the guests are seated, the host will deliver a speech, expressing the blessings in Wa language. On the long wooden table, there are a variety of delicacies such as steaks, roasted meat and chicken, fruits, and diverse cold dishes. The main course is made with glutinous rice, minced chicken congee, corn and other grains. It tastes soft and is drier than porridge.

The host will propose three toasts to the guests of honor, and the Wa girls will sing toasting songs, inviting the guests to enjoy the delicacies as much as they can.
