Located in southeast Yunnan’s Guangnan County, Bamei is a Zhuang people’s village hidden in the mountains. With its beautiful landscapes and simple and honesty people, it is regarded as a land of idyllic beauty.
There is a river flowing out of the village through a karst cave. And the way out of and into the village is through the cave by boat. Getting on board a boat and rowing against the water, you will enter the tranquil and dark cave. About ten minutes late, you will arrive at the end of the cave and find a beautiful village in front of you.
In the valley surrounded by mountains, waterwheels, farm houses, bamboo forests, banyan trees, rice paddies and villagers washing clothes at river side form a scroll of beautiful painting.
Rich in Zhuang ethnic culture, Bamei is a village where traditional Zhuang customs are well preserved. Every year, villagers hold sacrificial ceremonies to show their respect for the nature, and they celebrate their traditional festivals by performing folk songs and dances. And they pass down their own legendary stories from generation to generation.
