In recent years, flocks of blue-tailed bee-eaters(merops philippinus) are constantly observed in Qiaojia County, northeast Yunnan Province. According to the local forestry bureau, there are more than 30,000 blue-tailed bee-eaters inhabiting and breeding in the county this year. They often come in lunar March and leaves in June.
The bee-eaters mainly live in southeast Asian counties. Some of them also are found in Yunnan, Hainan and Guangdong provinces in China where they are regarded as the most beautiful bird for their rich colors and slender bodies. In 2013, the species was included in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
