Taking a breath of fresh air in Lijiang
Lijiang City, a world-renowned tourist destination located in northwest Yunnan province, has achieved good air quality ratio of 100 percent in 2017, ranking first in Yunnan province.
The city recorded 284 days of excellent and fine air quality, the highest level of the country's Ambient Air Quality Standard, accounting for 78.2 percent of the days.
Lijiang has tightened controls on environmental protection and the discharge of major pollutants since last year. Sulfur dioxide and chemical oxygen emissions were reduced by 0.82 percent and 2.66 percent, respectively, exceeding the city's targets.
The city has also expedited the reconstruction of local gas stations to reduce air pollution and improve air quality. The Lijiang branch of Sinopec Group has begun oil vapor recovery on 24 gas stations, with 14 still in need of reconstruction.
Emission tests were carried out on a total of 45,188 vehicles from January to May 2018, with 87.07 percent of vehicles meeting the standard.
