Australia's Stuart and Netherlands' Stegehuis take 2nd stage wins at Yunnan cycling event
Australia's Craig Stuart and Netherlands' Annemiek Irene Stegehuis won the 105km second stage of 2018 Colorful Yunnan International Granfondo Cycling Festival in Dehong Prefecture, Yunnan Province on Sunday.
Craig Stuart won the men's race from Mangshi to Ruili after 2 hours 28 minutes and 12 seconds to secure the yellow jersey.
"It is beautiful. I tried to save some energy today, I hope the climate will do well tomorrow," Stuart said.
Annemiek Irene Stegehuis completed her race in 2:32:06.
"The climate was very hot, all the groups were super fast, I just keep my pace, trying to stay in the group," Stegehuis said.
The event has been held every year since 2014. The cycling route, more than 600 kilometers in length, runs from Mangshi to Lijiang. Nearly 1500 cyclists from 26 countries and regions will participate in it.
The natural beauty along the cycling course together with the height at which the race is held are the main reasons why this event lures competitors from around the world in the past four years.
