Party and state leaders of Laos on Friday laid a wreath at the Unknown Soldier Monument in Vientiane to mark the 64th founding anniversary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (22/03/1955 – 22/03/2019).

Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and state President Bounnhang Vorachit led Party and state leaders laying the wreath.

Politburo member and Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, Politburo member and Vice President Phankham Viphavanh and other leaders were at the wreath-laying ceremony.

The wreath-laying was to salute, pay respect, and extend gratitude to the virtue and brave fighting spirit of the Lao ancestors and revolutionary fighters who sacrificed their lives and blood for the revolutionary task under the leadership of the Party.

The fighting ended in great victory and resulted in a proclaimation of independence and the formation of Lao People’s Democratic Republic on December 2, 1975.

The Lao People’s Revolutionary Party was established amid the growing need of the revolutionary task to lead the Lao people to fight shoulder to shoulder with peoples of other Indochina nations – Cambodia and Vietnam against foreign invaders.

Earlier, the fighting of the Indochina peoples was led by the Indochina Communist Party, which was founded in 1930 by Vietnam’s late President Ho Chi Minh.

To meet the growing fighting effort of the Lao people, the Phak Khaen Lao (Lao Party of Lao Region) was founded in 1934. The Party gave the Lao revolutionaries a new impetus and direction in their fight against the French.

The Phak Khaen Lao was decisive in leading people across the country to rise up and seize power from the Japanese fascists and French colonialists, culminating in the proclamation of Laos’ independence on October 12, 1945.

Through the Resolution passed by the Second Congress of the Indochina Communist Party, Lao communists held their First Party Congress and established the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party on March 22, 1955. The Congress elected President Kaysone Phomvihane as the Party Secretary General.

Thanks to the wise leadership of the party, the revolutionary fighting of the Lao people gained a great victory.

Finally, in September 1975, proclamations were made across the country declaring the erasure of all the old administrations. On December 2 of that year, the Party officially proclaimed the establishment of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
