Mekong Magazine holds Spring Festival reception

The Mekong Magazine held the 2019 Spring Festival reception in Kunming, Yunnan Province on February 1.

Diplomats with the consulates general of Myanmar, Laos, Thailand and Cambodia in Kunming were specially invited to join translators and proofreaders of the “four journals” under the Mekong Magazine, renewing their friendship and offering suggestions on improving the journals.

The attending diplomats included in-Kunming Myanmar consul-general U Soe Paing, Lao consul-general Khamphone Vongsanty, Thai consul-general Nitivadee Manitkul, and Cambodian consul-general Lem Puthviro. 

At the reception, the consuls-general agreed that under the Belt and Road Initiative, China has further coopered with the Mekong countries, and the four journals has fulfilled their due roles in sharing information regarding business, tourism and investment and reporting the Belt and Road Initiative and the community with a shared future for mankind.

Praising the journals’ role in increasing mutual understanding and confidence, they hoped the journals could further cooperate with their missions in Kunming for a brighter future in the Lancang-Mekong region. 

The translators and proofreaders for the Thai, Myanmar, Lao and Cambodian languages of the journals shared their living or working experiences in these countries, wishing for more progress in the Lancang-Mekong basin. 

The four journals of Mingalar, Mekong, Champa and Khmer under the Mekong Magazine are sponsored by the State Council Information Office of China and founded by the Information Office of the People's Government of Yunnan Province. Since 2016, they have been run by Yunnan Daily Press Group. 

Now the four journals and the multilingual web-portal Yunnan Gateway under The Mekong Magazine, together with the ten-plus multilingual news pages jointly published by Yunnan Daily Press Group and mainstream media in neighboring countries, have become a major source for the world to know about China and Yunnan.
