In a four-hectare rice field set aside for traditional rice farming in Shadi Village of Kunming's Jinning District, local famers created a huge "painting" to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

The "painting" is composed of greens, yellows and purples. It depicts a five-star red flag – the national flag of China – the Great Wall, a sailboat, the number "70", the character for "Yunnan" and the sand embankment of a fishing village.

The rice seedlings were transplanted in May and have been growing well over the past two months. By October, the rice field will turn golden and be ready for Chinese National Day celebrations.
