Laoxudian: A village built with fossils
Wood, stone, cement, metal are common building materials. But in Laoxudian Village, which is located in southeast Yunnan Province, houses are built with fossils.
Laoxudian sits 50 kilometers away from the government seat of Yunnan’s Shiping County. Seen from afar, houses are built with common stones. But taking a closer look, you may find some stones used to build houses are plant fossils.
Accordingly, the fossils found in the Laoxudian are about 375 million years old. There are 70 fossil houses remaining in the village, and the oldest one has stood here for over 200 years.
Laoxudian is so special that more and more tourists keep on visiting it after its stories and photos go viral on the internet. To cater for the needs of tourists, locals have renovated roads and improved environment in the village. It has now become a must-see tourism spot in the Shiping County.
