A few days ago during Chinese New Year, Zhang Xia and her husband went back to their hometown—Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture in northwest Yunnan Province. They were not only to celebrate the festival, but also aimed at introducing more fellows to work in Zhuhai City in Guangdong Province, a more developed place with more opportunities.

As a less developed area, Nujiang is faced with tough poverty alleviation tasks. And how to create more jobs is one of them. Therefore, local government takes export of labor as the most direct and efficient way to achieve targeted poverty alleviation.

“We can never be better off if we stay at home like old days. But if we choose to go out and learn skills, we’ll find jobs with stable income. I believe with hard work, our future will be promising,” said Zhang Xia.

Government officials of Nujiang also provides services for those who want to work in other places, like publicizing support policies and updating recruitment information.

For those who want to improve their skills, the government organizes trainings involving architecture, cooking, security, and housekeeping, weaving and so on according to their ages, education background and interests.
