A “moving photo studio” in mountains

For people living in cities, taking a family photo is a piece of cake, but for those living in some mountainous areas, it’s hard to take the photo.
Since 2015, Yang Dongqing, a young man from west Yunnan’s Baoshan City, has carried out a welfare project to take family photos for villagers living in mountains under the jurisdiction of Baoshan. Villagers call Yang’s team a “moving photo studio” in mountains.

On the third day of this year’s Chinese lunar New Year (Feb. 7), Yang, together with his nine team members arrived at Xinghua Village, Taiping Township, Baoshan. And they shot a photo for the family of Yang Demao as the 13 family members had never appeared in a picture together. This is just one of the stories behind the family photos they have shot. During the whole Chinese New Year holiday, the team had taken pictures for more than 60 households.

After taking photos, Yang and his team usually go back to the city in the evening. And in a couple of days, the villagers will receive the framed photos mailed from them.

Up to now, the team has taken pictures for a total of more than 400 families. Yang said these photos are symbols of family reunion and happiness.

“We can see that villagers’ income is increasing year after year. Some of them have moved to cities and cars are affordable to more and more families. For us, the photos we took in these years are the records of the change of times. We’ll keep on doing it and hope to hold a photo exhibition in the 10th year,” Yang said.
