9th Weishan snack festival opens in west Yunnan
The 9th Weishan Snack Festival, also an occasion for the Yi ethnic group to honor their ancestors, opened in Weishan County, west Yunnan’s Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture on March 14. Weishan is the cradle of the famed Nanzhao culture in Yunnan history.
At the festival opening, more than 160 varieties of dishes from across Yunnan province were on display in the Nanzhao alley. Of these, dishes passed down from the Nanzhao royal families were most popular among tourists.
Over 10 famous snacks from neighboring countries also appeared at the festival, making the event international.
The Yi calligraphy show, displays of potted landscapes and the opening of a tie-dye museum take place concurrently during the snack festival.
Organized by Yunnan Ethnic Culture Development Fund, Yunnan Institute of Yi Studies, Yunnan Expo Tourism Group and Dali Institute of Yi Studies, the Weishan snack festival will last till March 18.
