Vietnam holds grand rally for CPV's 90th anniversary
A grand rally to celebrate the 90th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) was held here on Monday.
Delivering a speech at the event, General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee and Vietnamese President Nguyen Phu Trong said the history of Vietnam's revolution demonstrated that the right, clear-sighted leadership of the party has been the key factor leading to the country's great achievements and victories.
Over the past 35 years of reform, Vietnam has transferred from a poor country with outdated socio-economic infrastructure to a developing middle-income country with its people enjoying better living conditions, Trong said.
He noted that 2020 is the last year of the term of the 12th CPV National Party Congress, the anniversary year of several important political events, and the year Vietnam assumes ASEAN's annual rotating chair and takes on the role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
The domestic and international context poses both opportunities and challenges for Vietnam, requiring the whole party and army and the entire people to make great efforts to complete the assigned tasks, Trong said.
He said the focus in 2020 is to realize socio-economic development plans, enhance macroeconomic stability, strengthen the implementation of strategic breakthroughs, restructure the economy in accordance with the innovation of the growth model, ensure social security and welfare as well as expand external relations.
The rally was attended by current and former senior leaders of the CPV and the country as well as representatives of international organizations in Vietnam.
