Kunming Airport tops the world in punctuality, 95.81% flights taking off on time

With 95.81% of its flights taking off on time, the Kunming Changshui International Airport in May ranked first among the large airports worldwide in punctuality, said CARNOC.com, a renowned Chinese civil aviation web portal. 

As the Covid-19 pandemic is on the wane, China gradually resumed domestic air services. In May,the country saw a total of 244,400 take-offs, up by 45.65% month on month but down 39.35% year on year. 

Kunming airport was followed by Shanghai Hongqiao Airport and the US-based Atlanta Airport punctuality in punctuality. Delays at Kunming airport were averaged at 9.08 minutes.

Among the medium-sized airports, the most punctual ones were Tokyo's Haneda Airport, the US Nashville Airport and Shenyang Taoxian Airport in northeast China.

The Civil Aviation Administration grouped Chinese airports in term passenger throughput in 2019. The airports with a yearly passenger throughput of over 30 million belong to large ones, 10-30 million being medium ones and 2-10 million small ones.

In April and May, Chengdu Shuangliu Airport was the busiest large airport in China.

Since the Covid-19 outbreak, the Yunnan aviation authority and air services have made joint efforts to insure the operation of international flights for medical supplies.

Now, the province operates 11 international cargo air routes flown by 30 planes weekly, and the flights reached the 9 countries of India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar and the United States. 

International cargo and mail throughput at Kunming Airport increased in May by 200% month on month, contributing global supply and domestic economic recovery.
