Making people happy and fulfilled is what a Xiaokang society entails
Network reporters on the “Go Yunnan, See Xiaokang” media tour visited the China (Yunnan) pilot free trade zone (FTZ) on September 21.
Jerry, an English reporter with Yunnan Gateway, visited Kunming area of China (Yunnan) pilot FTZ, experiencing the easy and fast self-service around the clock there. He also had a pleasant shopping trip at the Jindamen international mall. See the video above.
Then, let's look into changes at the FTZ’s Kunming area and listen to its workers’ understanding to a well-off society:
"In our opinion, making people happy and fulfilled is what a Xiaokang or well-off society entails.”
Since its inception one year ago, 13,727 businesses settled in the Kunming area, including 58 foreign firms. Peers from Jiangsu and Guangdong visited the Yunnan pilot FTZ.
"Very fast!" said head of Yunnan Dianyun Jiapin trading company, who experienced the 24-hour self-service center of the Kunming area. Using his ID card, he printed the business license on a self-service machine, with the official seal of his firm granted by staff.
Now 20 plus similar smart equipments are set up at the Kunming area’s self-service center, and the number of equipments is increasing.
With the ID card, business startups and the public can print their business licenses, invoices, and social-security certificates on the smart machines, enjoying e-governance 24 hours a day.
The center offers easy services for businesses and the public alike, improving departmental efficiency and accountability, said He Rui, director of the self-service center, which is driven by AI.
Now businesses in the Kunming area of Yunnan pilot FTZ can apply for and receive business licenses in half an hour if the information is complete. Multilingual services bring convenience and efficiency to foreign enterprises.
He Rui said in their eyes, a well-off society means a pilot FTZ with the easiest, fastest,and most efficient services.
"The reform should benefit more, giving the public and firms more happiness and gain. This is the well-off society we expect."

The Kunming Arbitration Center for International Commerce aims to solve disputes between transnational businesses, following the principle of joint contribution and shared benefits.
Since its inception in 2017, the center has been service-oriented, tapping social resources and building a "supermarket" of resolutions for international business disputes.
"Granting people fairness and justice is the goal of judicial workers. And this is the legal aspect of a well-off society," said Zheng Suijun, deputy secretary-general of the arbitration and mediation committee, China Academy of Arbitration Law.
Chen Xiaohua is a lawyer at the dispute management branch of the Kunming center. As a non-profit organization, the center aims to ease burden of the judicial branch, resolving business disputes outside the court.
Pointing to a badge on his uniform, Chen said investors in a well-off society yearn for a business environment of harmony and beauty."
"I guess Xiaokang means consumers can instantly access quality goods at low prices, without going abroad."
At the Jindamen international shopping mall, skin creams, infant items, jewelries and snacks are readily available. Most are best-selling goods from different countries.
"Based on the 1210 bonded stocking model, we offer Yunnan consumers global high-quality products,” said Wei Shujie, deputy general manager of Jindamen trading company. “They are cheap but authentic.”
Wei Shujie said the mall is like a wholesale center, allowing consumers to find their favorite products. “As a practitioner of the cross-border e-commerce, I guess Xiaokang means consumers can instantly access quality goods at low prices, without going afar."
Ms. Wei, a Jiangsu tourist who is shopping in the mall, believes that “a well-off society brings us good health, sound job, and merry shopping trips."
