Police in southwest China's Yunnan Province have captured two suspects and seized 176.6 kg of drugs in a recent drug trafficking case, local authorities said Tuesday.

After receiving a tip-off that a drug gang was planning to transport drugs into China, police in Mengla County, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, sent a task force to investigate the case.

On March 12, police caught two suspects in Xishuangbanna's Xiding Township and seized 176.6 kg of drugs from the rear seats of their car. The drugs contained 162.6 kg of opium and 14 kg of methamphetamine.

In the first 10 days of March this year alone, Xishuangbanna police cracked three major drug cases, with 233.153 kg of drugs seized.

Yunnan is a major front in China's battle against drug crime, as it borders the Golden Triangle known for its rampant drug production and trafficking.
