Infrared camera gets the attention of an Asian black bear
Staff at the Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve in southwest China's Yunnan Province found an Asian black bear curiously sniffing around an infrared camera installed for on-the-spot inspection in a forest. After walking around the camera for several minutes, the bear got close and sniffed the object. All of a sudden, it got frightened and stepped back, only to return minutes later and continue its close-range "investigation".
According to the staff, eleven of 35 infrared cameras installed in the wild have recorded footage of Asian black bears. The footage taken by the cameras, installed in a low altitude area with abundant water and food resources and close to a village, is seen a sign that the bears are frequent visitors to the area.
