Updated:2021-08-30 19:17:06
The International Union for Conservation of Nature classifies the western black crested gibbon as critically endangered and one of most endangered primates in the world.
With a total population of 1,400 in the world, there are 1,300 in Yunnan and about 500 live in Jingdong Yi Autonomous County, southwest Yunnan’s Pu’er City.
As a relatively concentrated area of gibbon population, Jingdong’s natural environment is of great significance to the conservation of the rare species
In 2008, Jingdong was dubbed as “Home to Chinese black crested gibbons” by China Wildlife Conservation Association.
