Appraised by Tan Yunhong, a researcher at the Xishuangbanna Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the flower was identified as Hoya burmanica.

It was discovered in Longling for the first time.

The flower species was also seen and recorded at the Tongbiguan reserve of west Yunnan's Ruili City and the Ailaoshan reserve of southwest Yunnan's Jingdong County in 2019.
