Updated:2021-09-17 11:25:04

A marbled cat was photographed by infrared cameras in Mt. Gaoligong Nature Reserve of Tengchong, southwest Yunnan’s Baoshan City recently. Marbled cats have been missing in China over 30 years since the last show-up in 1984.

The forest-dependent marbled cat is distributed from the Himalayan foothills of India and Bhutan to China and then southwards through to Malaysia and Indonesia. The marbled cat is a second-level national protected animal in China.

According to relevant data, the cat was first found and recorded in Lijiang, northwest Yunnan in 1976. Now, 20 or more marbled cats are living in Mt. Gaoligong Nature Reserve.
