Millennium-old osmanthus trees found in Yunnan

A large number of osmanthus trees were discovered on October 12 in the Lancang River Nature Reserve in southwest Yunnan’s Changning county.

 

Local forestry department said the trees can be as old as over 1,000 years. The wild osmanthus trees feature a north-south distribution that extends for more than 13 kilometers and covers 1,647 acres.

According to researchers, the ancient trees grow at an altitude of about 2,300 meters, the largest of which has a root circumference of 2.74 meters.
