1st China-Laos train for vegetables leaves Yuxi

Updated:2021-12-29 16:41:45

Loaded with Yunnan vegetables and flowers, a train carrying 21 refrigerated containers left December 27 Yanhe station in central Yunnan’s Yuxi city for Vientiane, Laos.

The train carried agro-products from 11 enterprises in Yuxi, with a total value of more than 1.3 million yuan. It consisted of 20 containers for vegetables and one for fresh cut flowers.

The goods covered nine kinds of vegetables like cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower, and nine flower species including carnations, roses, lilies and eustoma.

In 2020, Yuxi’s agro-exports reached 3.15 billion dollars, accounting for 60.4% of Yunnan’s total. More than 90% of these products were sold to Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar and other neighboring countries.

After the launch of China-Laos freight train, Yunnan fruits and vegetables will be transported via the railway to Vientiane, and then transited to Bangkok, Thailand.

The Kunming-Bangkok freight will be shortened to 68 hours from the previous 144 hours by pure road transport. The freight rate will drop by 30% on average.

The China-Laos Railway operates two or three pairs of cargo trains per day. Saving the time for custom clearance, the operation of trains between Yuxi and Vientiane has been reduced to around 18 hours.
