Yunmeng shadow play: Art of light and shadow

As a traditional folk art form in the Yunmeng region of central China’s Hubei province, the origin of Yunmeng shadow puppet play dates back to the middle of the Qing Dynasty(1644-1912). It is now a national intangible cultural heritage(ICH).Only two artists are needed to perform the play. One is responsible for manipulating the puppets and singing the tunes, the other is in charge of the percussion accompaniment.
