Rice harvest marked in Pu’er
Local Lahu ethnic folks launched a series of activities to greet the "new rice" festival in the scenic Chama (tea-horse) old town, southwest Yunnan's Pu'er city, on Sept. 21.
Falling in the eighth lunar month, the festival is a traditional occasion for Lahu and other ethnic groups to celebrate rice harvest, and it is followed by the moon festival this year.
In the evening, men and women of Lahu people lit fires in the pit, around which they stated to dance and sing, expressing their delights for harvest.
After some rituals, a lot of featured foods were served to guests.
The carnival goes overnight to pray for good weather, safety of humans and animals, and good harvest in the coming years.
The celebration generally lasts for three days.
