CPC100: Chanipi village decorated by stars
Recent online pictures taken by Xu Jiang show the Chanipi village that is decorated by stars. Located in the Zhicun town of Mengzi City, south Yunnan’s Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Chanipi is where the first CPC Yunnan Provincial Congress was held.
In October, 1928, the first provincial congress took place at the thatch hut owned by Li Kaiwen, a member of the Communist Party of China (CPC). 93 years on, the stars still shine over the village, and with the CPC centenary around the corner, the star-dotted sky looks even more symbolic.
By growing marigold and apple trees, villagers from the surrounding areas of the provincial congress site were raised out of poverty in 2017, and the Xibeile township neighboring Chanipi was recognized as a national model area in poverty elimination.
