Jingmai Mountain among Nat Geo’s “25 Amazing journeys”

A few days ago, Jingmai Mountain was included in the list of “25 best places for journey in 2022” by National Geographic (Nat Geo), an authorized American monthly magazine circulated worldwide.

The magazine picked the planet’s most exciting destinations by five categories—nature, adventure, sustainability, culture and history, and family. Jingmai Mountain, as the only place listed in China, belongs to a best place for culture and history.

The American magazine holds the area is one of the oldest cultural landscapes in China that is slated to become one of the country’s newest UNESCO World Heritage sites in 2022. “The Ancient Tea Plantations of Jingmai Mountain in Pu’er, which collectively form the world’s largest ancient artificially cultivated tea plantation, features about 1.13 million tea trees, the oldest of which is 1,400 years old,” said National Geographic.

Located in the southwest Yunnan’s Pu’er city, Jingmai is not the first time to be famous. As early as September 2012, the ancient Pu'er tea plantation and tea culture system was announced as a pilot project by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

In 2015, the Jingmai ancient tea forest was listed in "China's Most Valuable Cultural (Heritage) Tourist Attractions". In 2016, the Chinese National Geographic magazine recommended 10 best travel places for spring outings, and Jingmai Mountain topped the list.

“The remote location and limited tea-tourism offerings make a guided trip the best way to experience this enduring cultural landscape,” said Yi Lu, a traveler with National Geographic.
