COP15: Baby elephants fall in the same way at ditch
Video clip taken by a truck driver shows two elephant calves fell in exactly the same way while crossing a ditch in Jingning district, Kunming City on June 4. The calves belong to the 15-member elephant herd going astray northward in Yunnan.
After the video went viral on Chinese social media, online folks said the scene is funny at first sight but then they felt heart-broken. They hoped the elephants could return to their home in Xishuangbanna as soon as possible.
On June 6, the wild elephants moved southwestward to Xiyang township of Jinning district. The herd is said to have huddled together to ward off cool weather caused by the rainy days. Luckily, they are all healthy and safe, according to Yunnan provincial Forestry Department.
The elephants left Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve, in the Xishuangbanna Dai autonomous prefecture, last year and traveled nearly 500 kilometers northward-an abnormal route because the climate conditions in central Yunnan are not preferred by the former rainforest inhabitants.
