Archetypes of Chinese movie reunite in tears, Andy Lau sending greetings
When 51-year-old Guo Gangtang was reunited with his missing son, Guo Xinzhen, at a police station in east China’s Shandong province on July 11, members of the long separated family burst into joyful tears.
The now 26-year-old son was abducted in 1997 at the age of two, and in the ensuing years Guo Gangtang and his family tried all possible means to look for the missing son.
During the son-seeking odyssey, Guo mostly rode a motorbike that has taken him to a diversity of remote localities across China, covering a mileage of 500,000 kilometers.
In 2015, Guo's story was made into the movie Lost and Love starring Hong Kong actor, Andy Lau.
In June this year, public security experts used the latest testing and matching methods to successfully trace the son to Henan province. After the DNA was retested, the police finally confirmed his identity. Later, two suspects involved in the case were captured.
Hearing the news on the Zhao’s reunion, Andy Lau said via a video that he admired Guo Gangtang’s insistence in searching his son for over 24 years, while showing thanks to the police.
