Bougainvillea bushes are seen blooming in central Yunnan’s Kunming these days, decorating a traditional railway section near the old campus of Yunnan Normal University.
As a thorny ornamental bush, bougainvillea is native to South America, and it was transplanted to Europe in the 1830s. In the Chinese cities of Kunming and Xiamen, the flowering tree is usually planted beside fences or walls.
