Go Deep in Lijiang: Completion of tunnel marks major milestone for Lijiang-Shangri-La Railway project

The Yulong Snowy Mountain tunnel on the Yunnan-Tibet Railway was completed on May 5 after more than eight years of construction, marking a significant milestone in building the Lijiang-Shangri-La Railway, an important section of the Yunnan-Tibet Railway in southwestern China.

Over 200 incidents, including water and mud gushing, have taken place due to its complicated geological conditions. Authorities have mobilized professionals to cope with the various challenges multiple times.

The 139km-long Lijiang-Shangri-La Railway has 20 tunnels in total, with 19 completed so far, and is expected to go into operation within this year.
