Leisure at meter-gauge railway in Yunnan

Updated:2022-04-15 14:37:18

Differing from the standard 1,435mm railway, the meter-gauge railway refers to the one with a 1,000mm gauge between rails.

And it still operates in southwest China’s Yunnan province, as well as in Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia, France, and more.

In southeast Yunnan’s Honghe Hani and Yi autonomous prefecture, three trains in the colors yellow, red and green are running on the meter-gauge railways at 20 km/h, entertaining tourists a lot.

The yellow one runs on the Lin’an-Tuanshan rail line. Lin’an is the traditional name of Jianshui county, and now the Lin’an station has been renovated into a rail-themed park with ancient decorations.

The yellow train features wooden compartments. Ice-cream in the shape of train head is created to amuse the sight seers on the train.

Bound for Lin’an from the Shiping station, the red train is equipped with both hard and soft seats and it has an open carriage for passengers to take photos at ease.

Operating between the Kaiyuan and Data stations, the green train is the one with the least modern renovation. It looks closest to the Yunnan trains a century ago.
